General Questions
Introduction
Your feet are a window into your overall health. Here are answers to common concerns about podiatry, chiropody, and why regular care matters
Q1. What’s the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist?
Both terms describe the same profession. In the UK, “chiropodist” is the traditional name, while “podiatrist” is the modern term. Heather is fully qualified under both titles.
Q2. Why are feet a barometer of health?
Changes in the feet can indicate issues such as diabetes, poor circulation, or arthritis. Podiatrists are trained to spot these early warning signs.
Q3. When should I see a podiatrist?
If you have pain, corns, ingrown toenails, fungal infections, or changes in foot colour or shape, it’s time to book. Heather provides expert care without the need for a GP referral.
Q4. How does diabetes affect the feet?
Diabetes can damage circulation and nerves, making even small cuts dangerous. Regular diabetic foot checks with Heather reduce risks and keep your feet safe.
Q5. I’m worried about infections. How is equipment sterilised?
All instruments are cleaned using strict, medical-grade sterilisation procedures. Heather takes hygiene and patient safety extremely seriously.
Q6. Can podiatry really make my feet look better?
Yes. From cracked heels to fungal nails, podiatry not only improves comfort but also appearance. Many patients feel much more confident after treatment.
Q7. My feet ache all the time. Can you help?
Yes. Persistent foot pain is not normal. Heather can identify the cause - footwear, posture, or a medical condition - and provide solutions to relieve pain.
Q8. What if I’m embarrassed about my feet?
Don’t worry - Heather has seen everything and never judges. Most people are amazed by the difference even one appointment makes.
Q9. Do you treat children’s foot problems?
Yes. Issues such as flat feet, ingrown toenails, or warts can be treated safely and effectively in younger patients.
Q10. Can you help with foot problems caused by sports or running?
Absolutely. From blisters to stress injuries, Heather can assess and treat sports-related foot issues to get you back on your feet.
